The study programme generally begins in the fall semester. Since the modules build on each other, an application to begin studies in the spring will only be approved in exceptional cases.
In order to study at the University of Zurich, enrolment is required. This takes place after an application to the Admissions Office.
The application is made online via the page of the Admissions Office of the University of Zurich.
All students must be enrolled for as long as they use services provided by the University. These include, in particular, attending classes, receiving advising and counseling, using libraries and collections, using the Center for Information Technology Services, taking exams, and validating their diploma certificate.
A mathematics pre-course is offered to new students each year before the start of the semester in September. Detailed information is available from the Department of Mathematics.

All study achievemts are assessed according to the European Credit Transfer System ECTS.
The student workload comprises the total amount of work, i.e. attending and following up lectures and seminars, solving exercises, preparing and taking examinations, etc. The ECTS credit points are awarded to students for their work.
One credit point (ECTS) corresponds to a workload of about 30 hours. A full-time academic year with 60 ECTS credits thus comprises 1500-1800 hours. We recommend that regular students work towards 30 ECTS points per semester.
