Marcelle Soares-Santos is a member of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Collaboration and the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope Dark Energy Science Collaboration (LSST/DESC). Her research focuses on uncovering the nature of the accelerated expansion of the Universe using data from the largest sky surveys ever conducted. She had a leading role in the construction of the DES camera (DECam) and currently contributes to the effort of measuring the cosmic acceleration with galaxy clusters detected in its images. She also leads a novel effort in the field: the search for optical counterparts to gravitational wave events as a completely new method to study cosmic acceleration in future surveys.
