In 2025, we will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics!
The birth of quantum mechanics is intimately linked to the University of Zurich, which has hosted many scientists in the field. The formulation of quantum mechanics in has laid a lasting foundation for our physical understanding of nature and technological developments.
In the winter of 1925/26, Erwin Schrödinger developed the wave equation for electrons , which is now known as the Schrödinger equation and forms the foundation of quantum mechanics. At this time, Erwin Schrödinger held the Chair of Theoretical Physics at the University of Zurich. In 1933, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for his achievements.
